I created this painting towards the end of 2020 as part of a collection I titled "the innocents" During this time of global struggle, I felt like we were (and are) all searching for a shred of peace and tranquility. My focus on spirit animals this year really settled in on the elegant deer and it's symbol of peace and compassion. 

So I created 10 of them! And every single one has a soulful message that I hope provides a sacred space for you to channel quiet meditation and introspection.

Layers of charcoal, acrylic and oil pastel have been layered in a loose format to reveal vibrant pops of color against gorgeous neutrals. The paper is called Reeves BFK, and it's a warm, white printmaking paper that has a gorgeous, buttery surface that I love to paint on!

It was believed the deer called to men from the kingdom of the fairies in order to free them from the trappings of the earthly world. They would lure the men to a magical place. In other legends, deer often turned themselves into women to avoid being hunted.
