This series delves into the deer as feminine, and the lure of being hunted. In Celtic tradition, a female red deer (the Eilid in Gaelic), symbolizes femininity, gentleness and grace. It was believed the deer called to men from the kingdom of the fairies to free them from the trappings of the earthly world and would take them to the world of magic. In these legends, deer often turned themselves into women to avoid being hunted.
